Sanitary Sewer System Overflow due to Private Force Main Equipment Obstruction April 17

Due to equipment measuring hydrogen sulfide at the discharge end of a private force main failing and obstructing the flow in the sanitary sewer on Monday, April 17, 2023, the City experienced an overflow along Port Washington Road, which went into an adjacent ditch. The overflow did not go onto Port Washington Road. That ditch is located 3,400ft upstream of an unnamed tributary to the Milwaukee River.  Samples were collected and taken to a laboratory for analysis.

The City is continuing its efforts to maintain a reliable collection system with routine inspections, maintenance and improvements.
