About Us

The Parks Division of Public Works is responsible for all City park maintenance, exterior maintenance of all City buildings, the Forestry program, median maintenance, and Interurban Trail maintenance. With assistance from the Park Board, improvements to our park system are implemented. The Parks Department is also responsible for scheduling events and rentals, collecting fees, and coordinating stewardship groups and athletic organizations.  The City’s Park and Open Space play an important role in the life of residents and visitors.  From Rotary Park to the Highland Woods, a wide range of active and passive recreational opportunity is provided.  Today, Mequon places great emphasis on preserving the rural, cultural, and natural character that give the city much of its unique charm.

 


 

Department Mission Statement

The mission of the Park Board and Parks Department is to acquire, improve, and maintain the City’s park and open space for the purpose of providing active and passive recreational activities, land and water preservation and restoration, and environmental education for its residents. The various programs included are scheduling events, collection of fees, and the coordination of stewardship groups and athletic organizations.  

 


 

Department Objectives FY2023

  • Update CIP list for 2023 and continue to work on park and open space improvements.
  • Implement the facility maintenance and capital projects identified in the 2018 Facility Assessment Study.
  • Review fee schedule.
  • Fundraising and Marketing for Lemke building
  • Groundbreaking for Lemke Park building.
  • Continue to review policies and initiatives to increase transparency and service to residents and user groups.
  • Continue to implement and improve upon goals and objectives as outlined in the 2019 Park and Open Space Plan.
  • Release RFP for 2024 update to the POSB Comp plan

 


 

General Information

The Parks Department continues to see increased demands for its facilities.  Coordinating the rentals of the four pavilions, along with the athletic areas continue to be a big part of the daily workload.  There has also has been an increase in volunteer projects and donations that will need to be monitored.

All City of Mequon park hours are dawn to dusk. 

Please email us if you are interested in a Dusk to Dawn permit for activities such as star gazing. 

 


 

Park Pavilion Information

Pavilions are not available to rent during Thanksgiving Weekend or between Christmas and New Years due to staffing restrictions

  • North Reuter Pavilion capacity of 240 people. This pavilion is available to rent May through Early October.

  • South Rotary Pavilion capacity of 150 people. This pavilion is available to rent April through November

  • Sommer Pavilion at River Barn Park capacity of 100 people. This pavilion does have heat and air conditioning making it available for rentals year round. Virtual Tour of Sommer Pavilion at River Barn Park
  • Lemke Pavilion capacity of 90 people allowed. This pavilion is available to rent May- October when port a john bathrooms are available.
