MMSD continues to provide funding to municipalities through a Private Property Inflow and Infiltration (PPI/I) reimbursement program to rehabilitate building sewer laterals that reduces clear water from the sanitary system.  This program helps to maintain sanitary sewer capacity and avoid basement back-ups.

In 2017, the City of Mequon Common Council implemented sanitary building sewer lateral rehabilitation in the PPII Program Study area. The contractor was hired to examine building sewer laterals and consult with individual property owners on rehabilitation methods following Clear Water Compliance Certifications by City inspection staff. Clear Water Compliance inspections are used to confirm roof drains, downspouts and sump pumps go to the lawn rather than connect to the building sanitary sewer lateral. Additional dye testing was completed for those residents where visual inspections were not conclusive.

The majority of the scheduled contract work was completed in the fall of 2017 and restoration was completed in the spring of 2018. City staff is compiling information to evaluate the effectiveness of the project based on pumping records before and after the rehabilitation work.
