Mequon Police Department K9 Program

The Mequon Police Department currently has two K9 teams assigned to patrol.

K9 Djuke (pronounced “Duke”) is a male German Shepherd imported to the United States from Grabow, Germany. K9 Djuke was born on 03/24/2019. K9 Djuke has been with the City of Mequon Police Department and his Handler, Officer Bottoni, since the fall of 2020.

K9 Yukon is a purebred German Shepard that was born in Allendorf Germany on November 25, 2021. During his time in Germany, K9 Yukon received obedience training as well as some light security training. In August 2023, K9 Yukon finally made the long journey from Germany to his training kennel in Wisconsin. K9 Yukon started with the department on November 6, 2023, with his assigned handler, Officer Van Laanen.

Both K9s are trained and certified in tracking, narcotics detection, handler protection, apprehension, and building/area searches. Djuke and Yukon were trained at Steinig Tal Kennel in Campbellsport, WI.

Both K9s reside with their handlers at their residences when they are off duty and they are considered part of the family.
