Lead & Copper Sampling

May 19, 2023

The Mequon Water Utility would like to utilize your property  for the purpose of the Utility’s 2023 Lead and Copper Testing program. This property has been used for Lead and Copper sampling in the past, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) prefers to use consistent sites for collecting these samples. Public water utilities in Wisconsin are regulated by the WDNR, which sets monitoring and sampling requirements for lead and copper in drinking water.

First, we want to assure you that there are no lead laterals in the Mequon Water Utility distribution system. The monitoring requirements are not based on any previous high lead samples, but are instead routine samples all utilities must collect.

You are receiving this invitation to participate because your home was previously used a Lead and Copper monitoring site in the past. The WDNR approved sites in the Mequon Water Utility based on the age of the home and the plumbing materials used during construction. As such, the Utility is required to obtain a sample from your property to complete the lead and copper monitoring requirements. The Utility needs to collect further information regarding the interior plumbing materials and the presence/absence of a water softener or whole home filtering system. The Utility will share the laboratory results of the water sample collected at your home directly with you once we receive the analysis.

Please fill-out the fields below indicating your willingness to sample.  You may also call our office at 262.236.8152 between the hours of 7:00am and 3:00pm.There is no cost to the homeowner for sampling or testing.

Your prompt response to this notice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

MEQUON WATER UTILITY
