Water Main Relocation for I-43 Freeway at Highland Road and Port Washington Road near County Line Road

As part of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation I-43 reconstruction project, the Mequon Water Utility is relocating water main along Port Washington Road to avoid impacts of a new sound wall and also at Highland Road for a new bridge with on/off ramps.  This utility work is anticipated to be completed prior to the DOT roadwork project. The water main relocation work near County Line Rd and Highland Rd is scheduled to begin in Fall 2021 and be completed prior to February 2022.

01/26/2022 Update

Highland Rd Project

  • All water main installation and connections are complete.
  • Miscellaneous restoration continues this week.
  • After the Water Utility contractor demobilizes, ramps and erosion control will remain in place for other utility construction and DOT work.

01/20/2022 Update

Highland Rd Project

  • Main line installation is complete
  • Testing and sampling is complete
  • Final connections scheduled Friday, January 21st. Concordia University will be without water service for the duration of the final connections.
  • Final project restoration will occur next week, with the contractor demobilizing from the site. 
    • Other utilities will be performing work in the same area after the water project is complete.
  • Project is on schedule to be completed by 2/01/2022 deadline.

01/12/2022 Update

Highland Rd Project

  • Main line installation is complete
  • Testing and sampling continues this week.
  • Final connections anticipated either Friday, January 14th or Tuesday, January 18th.
    • Concordia University will be the only impacted customer with no water service for the duration of the final connections. Utility staff has been in contact with Concordia Staff during this time to keep them updated on schedules and impacts.

12/15/2021 Update

Port Washington Rd Project

  • Final connections on Katherine Dr were completed on Tuesday, December 14th. 
  • Restoration work completed on Wednesday, December 15th.
  • All work complete on the Port Washington Rd Project

Highland Rd Project

  • 12-inch pipe was installed under the interstate and railroad on Monday, December 13th.
  • Open cut work will continue into next week.
    • Lakeshore Dr crossing is scheduled for Thursday, December 16th. A single traffic lane will be maintained during construction
    • Highland Rd crossing will be bored - there will be no lane shutdowns for the crossing
  • Tentative final connections scheduled the second week of January 2022, but this is subject to change based on construction progress and weather.
  • All work is anticipated to be complete by 2/1/2022 prior to the DOT roadway project.

12/08/2021 Update

Port Washington Rd Project

  • Testing and sampling continues this week. Final connections will be scheduled once testing is complete.
    • Final connection will shut down all utility customers north of Katherine Dr on W Zedler Ln, N Lake Shore Dr, and the Wildwood Preserve subdivision. Once the final date is set, notices will be delivered to impacted customers.

Highland Rd Project

  • Bore and auger work under the interstate and railroad is ongoing. Work is proceeding slightly ahead of schedule. The casing and pipe under the interstate and railroad is anticipated to be complete by 12/15/2021
  • After the work under the interstate is complete, there will be water main installed across both Highland Rd and Lake Shore Dr.
    • Traffic will be reduced to one lane during the Lake Shore Dr crossing. The contractor will have flagging operations onsite to coordinate traffic
    • Traffic disruptions are not expected during the Highland Rd crossing. The contractor has elected to bore under the road instead of open cutting across in order to maintain traffic
  • For construction site access, there are temporary access roads on both sides of the interstate. After the project is complete, the site will be restored to pre-project conditions.
  • All work is anticipated to be complete by 2/1/2022 prior to the DOT roadway project.

 

12/01/2021 Update

Port Washington Rd Project

  • Testing and sampling continues this week. Final connections will be scheduled once testing is complete, but is anticipated on either Friday, December 3rd or Monday, December 6th.
    • Final connection will shut down all utility customers north of Katherine Dr on W Zedler Ln, N Lake Shore Dr, and the Wildwood Preserve subdivision. Once the final date is set, notices will be delivered to impacted customers.

Highland Rd Project

  • Bore and auger work under the interstate and railroad has begun. This work is anticipated to take 3 weeks and will be completed before the holidays.
  • After the work under the interstate is complete, there will be water main installed across both Highland Rd and Lake Shore Dr. As this work gets closer, more information will be available regarding any traffic impacts the work will cause.
  • For construction site access, there are temporary access roads on both sides of the interstate. After the project is complete, the site will be restored to pre-project conditions.
  • All work is anticipated to be complete by 2/1/2022 prior to the DOT roadway project.
