Care Center Voting

The Wisconsin Legislature has determined that the vigorous exercise of our constitutional right to vote should be strongly encouraged. The Legislature also recognizes that it is difficult for some individuals to get to their polling place on Election Day. This is particularly true for individuals residing in Residential Care Facilities such as nursing homes, community-based residential facilities, qualified retirement homes, residential care apartment complexes, and adult family homes. Wis. Stat. §§ 6.84(1), 6.875. In order to meet this need, the Legislature has established the privilege of absentee voting as an extension of the right to vote on Election Day.

The City of Mequon offers this service to the residents at the facilities listed.  Please follow the link(s) at the bottom of this page to view the required notice for each location:

Facts to Consider:

Occupants of care facilities must be registered to vote prior to being issued an absentee ballot. Wis. Stat. § 6.86(1). If a person is voting for the first time in Wisconsin, or has changed his or her name or address since the last time they voted, they are required to complete a Voter Registration Application before they vote.

Options for mailing a ballot are limited to those serviced by SVDs.  Please contact the City Clerk (262-236-2911) for details.

Residents at a care facility not served by SVDs are regular voters and should refer to typical voter processes here.
