City Issues COVID-19 Updates for the Community
Now that the COVID-19 emergency has reached an equilibrium and less public health information is coming out on a continuous basis, the City will be providing COVID-19 related information and updates that are planned through the Weekly Bulletin. Going forward, the City will resume more frequent COVID-19 Community Alerts as conditions may warrant in the future.

State of Wisconsin Passes Routes to Recovery Grant Program
On May 27th, Governor Evers announced a $200 million grant program to assist local governments with unbudgeted expenses related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The City of Mequon has been allocated $396,651 in funding from this new program. Reimbursement can be sought for items including personal protective equipment, cleaning/sanitizing supplies and FMLA/sick leave for public safety employees. City staff has been tracking all expenses related to the pandemic response and plans to submit for reimbursement for all eligible expenses.

Mequon Pool to Open June 12; Sports Fields, Park Facilities, Playgrounds Also Re-Open
Earlier this week, the Mequon Common Council approved a resolution that opens the Mequon Community Pool for the 2020 season and allows for the use of City athletic fields, park pavilions and other play areas (e.g. playgrounds, basketball courts, etc.) beginning on Saturday, May 30. This year, the Mequon Community Pool is scheduled to operate between Saturday, June 12 and Friday, August 21. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and to ensure proper social distancing, admission will be limited to 25% of the pool’s normal operating capacity (or a maximum of 145 individuals) and patrons will be required to bring their own pool chairs. Admission will also be limited to residents of Mequon and Thiensville, and payable by daily fee only (no season passes will be sold). To ensure the well-being and safety of pool and parks patrons, the City will be dedicating additional resources this year to clean and sanitize public restrooms. For a complete listing of approved regulations for the City’s pool and park facilities in 2020, please see Exhibits A, B & C in attached Resolution #3739, or visit the Parks Division page on the City website at: www.ci.mequon.wi.us/parks.

Common Council to Decide 2020 Sports Tournament Regulations on June 2
Earlier this week, the Common Council agreed to convene a special meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, to formulate a determination on the degree to which youth sporting tournaments (e.g. baseball, soccer, softball, etc.) will be permitted in City parks this year, following a decision to open such fields for league and/or public use beginning this Saturday, May 30. Additionally, the Council will also consider the necessary costs related to cleaning City park and pool facilities this summer, and how such expenses will be incorporated into the 2020 budget. As staff is still working to gather and compile the information that is to accompany these discussion items, it is anticipated that the meeting agenda and associated packet materials will be distributed to Council members and posted publicly on the City’s website by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, June 1.
