COVID Procedures Terminated at Mequon Parks and Pool
With Ozaukee County’s Case Burden transitioning to low, this triggers the termination of the COVID Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at the Mequon Parks and Mequon Community Pool. Effective earlier this week, Parks will no longer have capacity restrictions or require user groups to sign/acknowledge the exhibit or submit response plans.  The Pool will no longer require patron temperature checks, contact tracing, capacity or lap swimming restrictions, sanitation of chairs, or alternate hours for at-risk patrons.  Parks staff notified all existing reservations of the elimination of capacity restrictions and all user groups were notified that the SOPs were terminated.  Pool staff are now working to remove SOP-related signage.

Construction on County Line Road to Begin After July 4
The City of Mequon is planning to replace the sanitary force main in County Line Road from Reibs Road to Arrowood Drive.  This work is scheduled to begin after the 4th of July holiday. Traffic control devices will be installed to protect workers and traveling public, so please travel safely in the vicinity of the construction area.  Vehicular detours are also planned as County Line Road west of Cedarburg Road will be closed to through traffic at the Wisconsin Central Ltd. (CN) Railroad crossing.  This sewer work is part of the capital improvement plan where cast iron force mains are strategically being replaced throughout the City to provide reliable sewer service. The construction is scheduled to take up to 45 working days, and sewer service will not be interrupted.

Mequon Road Median Edging Work Commences
Northern Exposure began work this week on edging work along Mequon Road.  The scope of work includes cutting an approximate 1” edge at the back of curb to create a clean edge between the existing grass and curbing, the hauling and disposal of spoils, and providing traffic control.  The goal of the edging is to provide an interface at the curb which can be maintained with a string trimmer.  Edging will be completed on the medians at the north and south edge of Mequon Road and at the back of curb from Wauwatosa Road to Port Washington Road.  It is anticipated that the work will require 6-8 full working days, which may not be completed consecutively.

W. Freistadt Road in Thiensville to Close for Repair
Beginning Monday, June 28 at 8:00 A.M., the Wisconsin Central Ltd. Is performing repairs at the railroad crossing on W. Freistadt Rd.  The street will be closed and a signed detour will be in effect until the end of the day on Monday, July 5.

Grazing Goats are Back at Rotary Park to Eradicate Buckthorn
The Mequon-Thiensville Sunrise Rotary Club is partnering again with Ozaukee-Washington Land Trust to bring a herd of goats to Pukaite Woods located in Rotary Park. The goats will eat and defoliate nearly 18 acres of buckthorn and brush. It is estimated they weakened the plants considerably in 2020, reducing new growth this year.  Last year, it took 6 ½ days for 38 goats to clear one enclosed area and this year it only took 4 days for 26 goats to clear the same area.  The goats are enclosed in paddocks created by electric fences that may limit access to some trails in the Woods.  Adults and children are urged to stay away from the fences.  City residents are welcome to visit Pukaite Woods over the next week to watch the goats feed on buckthorn.
