Local Spring Election Results
On Tuesday, April 5 the Spring Election was held in Mequon which included local races, County Supervisory races and Court of Appeals Judge.  Locally, the City elected a new Mayor, Andrew Nerbun.  Mayor Nerbun will take office at the Organizational meeting on Tuesday, April 19 at 6:00 P.M.  Additionally, Alderman Robert Strzelczyk was reelected as Alderman for District 1 and Jeffrey Hansher was reelected as the Alderman for District 4 and both will take office on April 19.  Jason Levash and Paul Buzzell were elected as school board members and Maria Lazar will take office as the District 2 Court of Appeals Judge.  Congratulations to all.

2022 Annual Budget Available on the City’s Website
Following adoption of the 2022 annual budget by the Common Council last November, the Finance Department staff worked to compile the finalized 2022 budget book. The completed document can now be found on the City’s website by clicking here.

City Hiring Accounts Receivable Specialist
The City’s Finance Department is now accepting applications for a full-time Accounts Receivable Specialist.  The position offers competitive pay, benefits, and paid time off. Applications are being accepted until 8:00 A.M. on April 29.   For an application and position details, click here.

Traffic Changes Coming at Brown Deer and Green Bay Roads
WisDOT will move into the second stage of construction along W. Brown Deer Road and N. Green Bay Road on Friday, April 8.  Changes on Green Bay Road (WIS 57) will include:

  • Green Bay Road fully closed south of Brown Deer Road.
  • Bi-directional traffic (one lane in each direction) will be on the southbound WIS 57 roadway, south of County Line Road.
  • Southbound WIS 57 off-ramp to Brown Deer Road will be used as both an off-ramp for southbound traffic and an on-ramp for northbound traffic, with one lane in each direction.
  • Ruth Place access to WIS 57 closed through fall 2022.

WisDOT I-43 North-South Project Updates
Beginning Monday, April 11, Fiesta Lane, west of Port Washington Lane, is scheduled to close for approximately one week to resume the temporary widening at Port Washington Lane.  Residents will need to access Fiesta Lane from the north or south via Columbia Drive or Grasslyn Road.  Emergency responders, the United States Postal Service, and the Department of Public Works services have been notified of modifications.  Residents should be aware that there will be noise and dust associated with the temporary widening activities.

Also, there will be another overnight closure of I-43 Northbound from Brown Deer Road to Mequon Road on Thursday, April 14.  The detour route will be Mequon Road to WIS 181 to Brown Deer Road.

Drug Take Back Day Taking Place on Saturday, April 30
Drug Take Back Day will be held on Saturday, April 30 at Concordia University from 10:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M. Mequon Officers and pharmacy students from Concordia will be available to take unused/old/expired medication.  This will be a drive-up event located near the Pharmacy Building on Concordia University’s Mequon Campus, located at 12800 N. Lake Shore Drive.  The Prescription Drug Take-Back Day provides a safe, convenient, and responsible means for disposing of unwanted or unneeded prescription medications.  Please see the attached flyer for additional details.

Save the Date for the 2022 Arbor Day Festival on May 1
The 2022 Arbor Day Festival will be held on Sunday, May 1 at the Sommer Pavilion at River Barn Park, 9808 N. Cedarburg Road, from 1:00 P.M. - 3:00 P.M. There will once again be educational vendors, a raffle inside the pavilion, and a tree planting demonstration in the park. Give-away trees will be available, check the City’s website for updates on specific tree types as the date gets closer.

National Weather Service Offering Storm Spotter Training
The National Weather Service of Milwaukee is offering free Storm Spotter Training to the public on Tuesday, April 19 from 6:30 P.M. – 8:30 P.M. at the Ozaukee County Fairgrounds located at W67N890 Washington Avenue in Cedarburg.  No registration is required.
