COVID-19 Update for the Week Ending Friday, September 4
The City of Mequon, in coordination with the Washington/Ozaukee Public Health Department and other state and federal agencies, continues to monitor the spread of COVID-19.

  • As of this afternoon, the State has had 79,354 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 1,153  associated deaths.  Of the cases in Wisconsin, 990 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 19 related deaths have been in Ozaukee County, based on information from the Washington Ozaukee Public Health Department (WOPHD).
  • Wisconsin Department of Health Services issued a recommendation that tests for asymptomatic people with close contact of a COVID-19 positive person should be completed to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
  • Multiple agencies issued an alert informing the public that scammers are posing as COVID-19 Contact Tracers in an attempt to defraud unsuspecting consumers. The Justice Department encourages those who have spotted a contact tracing scam or any fraud connected to COVID-19 to report it to the National Center for Disaster Fraud at 866-720-572.

City Offices Closed on Labor Day
All non-emergency City offices will be closed on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day. City offices will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, September 8.

Public Works Completes Outreach to Pool Staff and Patrons in Response to COVID-19 Case
The Washington/Ozaukee Public Health Department informed the City that one of the pool employees has tested positive for COVID-19.  The employee identified the last date of work within their infection period as August 20 and no other employees/patrons were identified as close contacts.  The last day of operations at the pool was August 21.  At the direction of the Washington/Ozaukee Public Health Department, City staff utilized contract tracing information collected at the pool to notify both staff and pool patrons of the potential exposure. The notice provided information on COVID-19 symptoms, quarantine procedures, and a recommendation for anyone experiencing symptoms to contact their health care provider. As part of its regular operations for the 2020 season, the Mequon Community Pool maintained additional sanitization and distancing measures during all operations to mitigate the chance of COVID-19 spreading among pool patrons and staff.  As of this communication, no other individuals have been reported as testing positive for COVID-19 from the Community Pool.

New K9 Unit Member Arrives in Wisconsin
The Mequon Police Department is proud to introduce its newest officer, K9 Djuke (pronounced “Duke”). K9 Djuke is a purebred German Shepard that was born in Germany in March of 2019. During this time, K9 Djuke received obedience training as well as light security training.  In July of 2020, K9 Djuke made the long journey from Germany to his training kennel in Wisconsin. K9 Djuke had been scheduled to arrive several months earlier, however, his arrival was delayed due to COVID-19 restrictions.

K9 Djuke is currently training to become a dual-purpose dog, meaning he will be trained in apprehension and location functions, as well as the detection of illegal drugs.  K9 Djuke is expected to train with his handler, Officer Matt Bottoni, starting on September 21. K9 Djuke will live with Officer Bottoni, his wife, and their two young daughters when he is not on patrol. Look for K9 Djuke to be on patrol in the City, late this fall.

Officer K9 Djuke was made possible by generous donations and with the help of the Mequon Community Foundation.
