COVID-19 Update for the Week Ending Friday, September 18
The City of Mequon, in coordination with the Washington/Ozaukee Public Health Department and other state and federal agencies, continues to monitor the spread of COVID-19.

  • As of this afternoon, the State has had 97,279 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 1,238 associated deaths.  Of the cases in Wisconsin, 1,194 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 19 related deaths have been in Ozaukee County, based on information from the Washington Ozaukee Public Health Department (WOPHD).
  • As a friendly reminder, the state-wide mask mandate is in effect until September 28.
  • The Treasury Department warned of scammers claiming to be from the department offering COVID-19 related grants or stimulus payments in exchange for personal financial information, an advance fee, or other charges.  The Treasury Department will not seek out personal financial information. Those who suspect fraud can report it to the FBI at http://www.ic3.gov/.

Deadline to Respond to the 2020 Census - September 30
September is the final month to be counted in the 2020 Census and to help guarantee the City of Mequon receives funding for essential services that will shape the future of Mequon for the next 10 years.  The 2020 Census determines the number of each state’s representatives in Congress and is used by lawmakers in Washington and Madison to allocate funds for programs and services that impact the community – including roads, schools, hospitals and healthcare clinics.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Wisconsin has about 18.4% of households who have not responded to the survey.  The deadline to respond to the 2020 Census is September 30.  Responding to the Census can be done online at https://my2020census.gov/, by phone at 844-330-2020, or by mail if you received a paper questionnaire.  The census asks only 10 questions and takes a few minutes to complete.  Answers to the questions are confidential and can never be shared with federal or local law enforcement agencies.

Households that have not responded to the 2020 Census will be visited by a locally hired Census taker.  Census takers have been trained on the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and local health guidelines, will maintain a six-foot distance, will wear a mask and will be carrying other personal protective equipment (PPE) to keep everyone safe.

Absentee Ballot Mailing Resumes
The Wisconsin Supreme Court issued an order last Thursday advised all municipal clerks to refrain from mailing absentee ballots until the court considers ballot access for two Presidential candidates.  The Court then vacated the order on Monday.  Since then City staff has been working diligently to process the 7,200+ absentee ballots that were required to be in the mail by Thursday.  All ballots were mailed on Thursday by the deadline.

Mequon Community Pool Sees Sizable Attendance Numbers During COVID-19
This summer, the Mequon Pool was open from June 12 - August 21.  The attendance for the season was 8,081, compared to 9,051 in 2019 and 10,928 in 2018.  Pool attendance totaled 1,275 for June, 4,521 for July and 2,285 for August. At the beginning of the pool season the pool was open 12:30 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. from June – July.  The hours were later changed to 11:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M.  Pool staff took extra precaution for COVID-19 by consistently cleaning throughout the day, enforcing social distancing and closing for 30 minutes during the day to sanitize.  Following the CDC and Washington-Ozaukee Health Department guidelines the pool operated at 25% capacity, dropping the maximum for attendees from 865 to 134.
