Taste of Mequon 2021 a Resounding Success
Great temperatures brought out a wonderful crowd last Saturday to celebrate the Taste of Mequon.  Children enjoyed the games, inflatables, Gypsy Geoff circus performances, art area, and balloon artist throughout the day.  The bands, LO/ST, Sawdust Symphony, and Stray Voltage, had the crowd dancing the night away.  The Mequon Community Foundation raised $3,209 for the Fire Department and five lucky children will be getting a ride to school in a fire truck in the near future.  It could not have happened without all the vendors, sponsors, volunteers, and City staff.  Thank you to the Festivals Committee for hosting such a wonderful community event for the City!

Residential Green Infrastructure Workshops on 9/20 & 9/22
Fresh Coast Guardians, with the help of their partners at Clean Wisconsin and the Milwaukee Public library, are offering two free residential green infrastructure workshops online on Monday, September 20, from 6:00 P.M. – 7:30 P.M. and Wednesday, September 22, from 6:00 P.M. – 7:30 P.M. In these online trainings, participants will learn about the benefits of green infrastructure that manages stormwater where it falls and helps reduce the risk of flooding and water pollution impacting area rivers and Lake Michigan. Eligible homeowners living within the District’s service territory who participate in either of the workshops in their entirety will be able to collect a free rain barrel from the District this fall.  To find details and eligibility, and to register for the events, please RSVP to this link for the September 20 workshop or this link for the September 22 workshop.

Tour the Jones Island Water Reclamation Facility on 9/25
Ever wonder where that water goes after it flows down the shower drain or is flushed down the toilet?  Residents can find these answers, better understand where their tax dollars go, and how to get involved on Saturday, September 25 at Historic Milwaukee’s Doors Open Event.  This single-day event allows anyone to tour the Jones Island Water Reclamation Facility, one of two water reclamation facilities in Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District’s (MMSD) regional sewer system.  At this event, residents will learn about how Milorganite Fertilizer is made, the water reclamation process, and tips for managing water on one’s own property.  To keep everyone safe, in-person tours will be limited this year, and registration is required.  Join MMSD on this special day and learn how everyone can help to protect our water.
