Preview of October 12 Common Council Meetings 
Starting at 6:30 P.M on Tuesday, October 12, the Mequon Common Council, meeting as the Committee of the Whole, will:

  1. Select a drainage option for the property located on North Courtland Drive, to remedy a failed drainage pipe that resulted in a sink hole
  2. Finalize the design of streetscape elements in Mequon Town Center

Starting at 7:30 P.M., the Common Council will hold its monthly meeting for October. The meeting will begin with an update of the I-43 Expansion Project from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.  Following the WisDOT update, the Common Council will consider a number of other items, including:

  1. A development agreement for The Enclave at Mequon Preserve South Phase III, a 12-lot subdivision at 7901 W. Preserve Parkway
  2. Approval of the final plat for Phase II of The Woods at Highland Park, a 5 building 10-unit condominium development located on Green Bay Road
  3. Amending Chapter 58 of the Municipal Code, establishing veterinarian clinics as a conditional use in Neighborhood Commercial Zoning Districts
  4. Amending Chapter 2 of the Municipal Code, increasing the annual carry-over limit for paid time-off of non-represented employees from 40 to 80 hours
  5. Approving a Town Center business loan in the amount of $25,000 between Bank Five Nine and Mammoth Fitness for a fitness center at 6400 W. Mequon Road
  6. Disallowing the claim of Kay-Xiong Yang dated September 26, 2022

November Council Meeting on Wednesday, November 9
In November, the Common Council Meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 9, due to the General election being held on Tuesday, November 8.  The meeting will take place in Christine Nuernberg Hall beginning at 7:30 P.M.

Highland Road Bridge Reopening on Saturday, October 8
As part of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s (WisDOT) 14-mile, I-43 North-South reconstruction project, between Silver Spring Drive and WIS 60 (Washington Street), Highland Road closed on February 28 for bridge and interchange construction.   Final work was completed this week and the road will reopen to traffic on Saturday, October 8.  Please note: the bridge will be open, but the Highland Road interchange ramps are still under construction.  It is anticipated that the new, full interchange will be completed and open for use in early December.

County COVID-19 Testing Sites Ending on October 12
Effective next Wednesday, October 12, Curative COVID-19 testing operations in Washington and Ozaukee counties will end.  Other COVID-19 community testing sites can be located here.   Wisconsin residents can also request free at-home tests via this link.

City Seeking Qualified Candidates for Inspector Position
The Department of Community Development is currently seeking a full-time City Inspector.  This position performs skilled inspection work to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal codes. Experience in construction, heating, electrical and/or plumbing trades, completion of course work at an accredited college or university in the areas of building construction, engineering or related field, or any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is required.  The full job description and application details can be found here.

Mequon Oktoberfest Taking Place on Saturday, October 15
1840 Brewing will be hosting its final beer garden of the season at Community Park on Saturday, October 15, from 12:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M.  Live music will be provided by Acoustic Blu Duo and Troublemakers Cocina will be the on-site food truck.  Come out and celebrate Oktoberfest with fellow Mequon residents!

MMSD Launches Reforestation Program at Nature Preserve
On October 4, the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District and Ducks Unlimited launched a Reforestation and Wetland Restoration Program at the Mequon Nature Preserve with the planting of a ceremonial first tree.  The program will plant six million trees and restore or enhance 4,000 acres of wetlands in the next ten years.  This means that the final 57 acres of traditional agricultural land at the Preserve will be transformed into wetlands, prairie, and forest 25 years ahead of schedule.  The ceremony included remarks from MMSD Executive Director Kevin Shafer, WDNR Secretary Preston Cole, and Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin.
