Contracted Tree Removal
In the fall of 2020, City staff administered a contract with Wallace Tree & Landscape and Choice Cuts Tree Service to remove approximately 200 Ash trees from two primary locations. The primary objective was to target trees that were both the largest and most difficult for City staff to remove, while also considering trees that presented the largest public safety concerns due to their proximity to homes or main roads.  The areas chosen for this fall’s removal efforts were North Lake Shore Drive and the Westchester Lakes neighborhoods. Removal work was completed by October 15. City crews completed the stem removal and are currently working on completing stump removal and restoration as secondary operations. Tree replacement(s) will be offered in these areas during the spring or fall of 2021. In all, City staff and contractors hired by the City have removed over 2,500 trees throughout the City in 2020.

Local History Groups Invite Youth to Become Young Historians
The Jonathan Clark House Museum, Mequon-Thiensville Historical Society and Trinity Freistadt Historical Society are offering a program for area youth to explore Wisconsin history right in their own back yards.  Their resources include the 1848 Jonathan Clark House Museum, the Mequon-Thiensville Historical Society Archives Center, the 1839 Isham Day House and the historic Freistadt Village.  Examples of young historian projects include visiting and photographing a local historic site, taking a walking tour of local historic sites, interviewing a local historian or craftsperson, studying old maps, photographs or newspapers and watching a demonstration of early settler skills.

More information is available in the attached flyer, or on the three local history organizations’ websites:
