City Issues COVID-19 Updates for the Community
The City of Mequon continues to monitor the spread of COVID-19 and share information with the public. The City is posting updates online, which can be accessed by clicking here, during this emergency as conditions warrant, and as new or updated information becomes available.

Heavy Rain Fall Requires Bypass Pumping
Due to more than 5 inches of rainfall last Sunday, May 17, the City experienced overflows at nine lift stations, which required bypass pumping of the sanitary sewer system. Bypass pumping is used to reduce basement backups and limit potential private property damage. The times varied for each station, but the overall duration during which bypass pumping occurred was generally between 1:30 p.m. on May 17 and 3:00 a.m. on Monday, May 18. While the sanitary system is designed to accommodate an amount of clear water flow, on Sunday the amount of inflow and infiltration exceeded system capacity. MMSD also had multiple bypass locations, as did several adjacent communities. The City is continuing its efforts to reduce the amount of inflow and infiltration with ongoing sewer lateral work, plus ongoing rehabilitation of sanitary sewer mains and capacity improvements to lift stations. More information can be found on the City Sewer Utility’s webpage.

Union Pacific Railroad to Replace Culverts
In November 2019, City staff petitioned the Office of the Commissioner of Railroads (OCR) to compel Union Pacific (UP) Railroad to replace two failing culverts.  The culverts are north of Mequon Road adjacent to the MMSD Green Seams property on the east side of the City.  After testimony from City staff, Union Pacific, and a formal hearing, the Office of the Commissioner of Railroads found that the Union Pacific Railroad is required to replace the culverts by September 1, 2020.  The culverts are scheduled to be repaired between May 18 and June 18.
