Preview of 6/14 Committee of the Whole & Council Meetings 
Starting at 6:15 P.M on Tuesday, June 14, the Committee of the Whole will discuss the following:

  1. Presentation will be given by Consultant Sheryl Trent of SBrand Solutions, LLC of the City’s Draft Strategic Plan for 2022-2025.
  2. Discussion of the City’s Financial Policies regarding vehicle leasing. 

Starting at 7:30 P.M., the Common Council will hold its June monthly meeting. The meeting will begin with the appointment of the District 8 Alderman through April 4, 2023.

A public hearing regarding the following will then take place:

  • An ordinance amendment to a planned unit development for the property located at 12831 N. Port Washington Road to expand its hours of operation to 7:00 A.M. – 7:00 P.M.

  1. Authorize the release of the Bike Path Easement on lots 1 and/or 2 of Certified Survey Map 3406 at Oriole Lane.
  2. Authorize City Staff to file the Compliance Maintenance Annual Report (CMAR) for Calendar Year 2021.
  3. Amend the City Zoning Map to allow for a 17-lot single family residential cluster development for the property located on the north side of Donges Bay Road and west of Wauwatosa Road.
  4. Reconsider creating Section 10-26 of the Mequon Municipal Code related to swimming pool covers in lieu of fences.
  5. Amend various provisions of the Mequon Municipal Code in connection with the establishment of the Southern Ozaukee Fire & EMS Department.
  6. Authorize an agreement with GovHR USA, LLC to complete a classification and compensation study.
  7. Amend the City’s Financial Policies regarding vehicle leasing.
  8. Authorize receipt of dugout improvements at Rotary and River Barn Parks from the Thiensville-Mequon Youth Baseball Association.
  9. Award a contract to design Tamerlane Drive Lift Station O Force Main Improvements.

Multiple Road Closures to Begin June 13
A reminder that Donges Bay Road, between Wauwatosa Road and Cedarburg Road, is scheduled to fully close Monday, June 13 through late summer 2022. Motorists will need to utilize Donges Bay Road, Wauwatosa Road, Mequon Road, and WIS 57 (local access only), to get around the Donges Bay Road closure. WIS 57 (Cedarburg Road), between County Line Road and Mequon Road, is scheduled to close to through traffic beginning Monday, June 13 to Monday, June 27. WIS 57 will be fully closed to all traffic at Donges Bay Road from Monday, June 13 to Monday, June 20, and will be fully closed at Sherwood Drive from Monday, June 20 to Monday, June 27. Motorists will need to utilize Wauwatosa Road, Brown Deer Road, and Mequon Road to get around the WIS 57 closure. Roadway resurfacing, from Monday, June 13 through Monday, June 27 will close WIS 57 to all through traffic from County Line Road to Mequon Road. Access will be maintained for local traffic only (traffic with an origin or destination requiring access to/from WIS 57). Local traffic will be required to access from the nearest adjacent alternate route. 

Another closure to take note of is at County Line Road between Range Line Road and River Road.  It is scheduled to fully close Monday, June 13 through the end of July 2022 to replace an existing box culvert.  The road will be closed to all through traffic. Access for those living on County Line Road will be maintained. Crestwood Court access also will be maintained.

In addition, Governor Evers signed a $2.5 million contract to resurface WIS 181 (Wauwatosa Road), from Pioneer Road to WIS 60.  Work will begin the week of June 13.  Signed detour route follows Pioneer Road (County Road C), Granville Road (County Road Y), and WIS 60.  Construction is scheduled to be complete by late August.

Lake Michigan Water Level Update
The Wisconsin Coastal Resilience Newsletter reported in its June edition that Lake Michigan water continues its seasonal incline this spring, increasing by about 3 inches from April to May.  Though Lake Michigan is now about 25 inches below the highest monthly water level recorded for May in 2020, the Lake is still about 10 inches above the long-term average water level.  Water levels are expected to continue their seasonal incline until late summer but remain above the long-term average.  Read the full update here

Beer Gardens Return to Mequon Parks
The City of Mequon is excited to announce that it will again be a part of 1840 Brewing’s Beer Garden Road Show. The events will be held once a month through October.  Most of the events take place on Friday nights from 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. and feature live music, games, food trucks, and craft beer.  The dates and locations for the upcoming beer gardens are as follows:

  • June 17 - Mequon Community Park, 4:00 - 8:00 P.M.
  • July 22 - Lemke Park Pavilion, 4:00 - 8:00 P.M.
  • August 26 – Mequon Community Park, 4:00 - 8:00 P.M.
  • September 30 – River Barn Park, 4:00 - 8:00 P.M.
  • October 15 (Saturday) – Mequon Community Park for Mequon Oktoberfest

Last Mother Earth Brown Bag Series at MNP on June 15
Join Kristin Gies, Executive Director of Mequon Nature Preserve, for the last of three educational talks, Mother Earth is Where We All Meet, about the history of the Preserve’s land.  It will take place at the PeiperPower Education Center from noon – 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 15 and the topic will be “It’s Time to Reconnect to the Earth, but how do we do that?”  

Heritage Days Series at JCH to Begin on June 18
Summer is back at the Jonathan Clark House Museum, and that means so is Heritage Days!  The outdoor celebration of the community’s heritage will be back in full swing with fuzzy friends to pet and feed, nostalgic games and hands-on activities of yore, and tasty refreshments.  The first event on Saturday, June 18 from 12:00 – 3:00 P.M. will feature scratch biscuits with strawberries and cream.  Additionally, two other events will take place on July 16, highlighting brewing history with Foxtown Brewing, and August 20, featuring crafts with the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts.
