Mequon Fire and Police Visit M-T Summer Camp
A few weeks ago, Officer Jason Moertl, one of MTSD's School Resource Officers, Firefighter/Paramedic Ben Beck, and Firefighter/EMT Intern Antonio Andrade stopped by the Mequon-Thiensville Recreation Department Summer Camp to participate in Community Worker Week.  Students created special paintings for the Mequon Police and Fire Departments, shared stories about special community workers/helpers in their lives and watched an excavator and construction workers dig a new playground at Oriole Lane.  Thanks to the Mequon Police Department and Mequon Fire Department for participating!

Mequon Nature Partners with MPS First Nations Studies
In mid-June, Mequon Nature Preserve MNP) partnered with Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) First Nations Studies to host and participate in Act 31 Institute: Native by Nature. This collaboration welcomed over 40 MPS teachers to MNP where they spent the week learning about the historical trauma of the people of First Nations, and how to integrate native teachings and culture into their standard curriculum.  Elders, speakers and leaders from across Wisconsin guided the teachings each day.  Between the morning and afternoon sessions, MNP staff took the teachers on the land to explore ecosystems, try out the hands-on field trips that are offered at no charge, and learn how simple it is to book a field trip for the upcoming school year.
