COVID-19 Update for the Week Ending Friday, July 24
The City of Mequon, in coordination with the Washington/Ozaukee Public Health Department and other state and federal agencies, continues to monitor the spread of COVID-19.

  • As of this update, the State has 46,917 reported cases of COVID-19 and 878  associated deaths in Wisconsin. Of the cases in Wisconsin, 464 reported cases of COVID-19 and 17 related deaths are in Ozaukee County, based on information from the Washington Ozaukee Public Health Department (WOPHD).

  • Due to the increased spread of COVID-19 the WOPHD has rolled back its capacity recommendations for gatherings, venues, and types of businesses in Ozaukee and Washington Counties.

  • The CDC published a website providing resources and guidance for decision makers managing COV-19 in their communities, schools, workplaces, and events.

  • The Center for Disease Control (CDC) updated its COVID-19 isolation guidance to 10 days after symptoms begin and 24 hours after their fever has broken. For those who have a positive test but are asymptomatic, they recommend isolating 10 days from the testing date. Previously the agency recommended 14-days of isolation after symptom onset or positive asymptomatic test.

  • The Department of Health and Human Services made its new coronavirus database available to the public online, which includes the data that hospitals formerly reported to the CDC.

Common Council Approves Reducing Liquor License Fee
The City of Mequon Common Council has been actively pursuing ways to support local businesses and to ease the strain businesses are experiencing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  One way, among others, that the Council has acted to aid in the rebound of businesses is to reduce/eliminate the fees for liquor licenses.  At its July 14 meeting, the Common Council voted unanimously to reduce the fees of all 2020 - 2021 liquor licenses to the statutory minimum.  Rebate checks totaling over $26,000 will go back to local business to thank them for locating in Mequon, and as a hope that businesses will remain in Mequon for years to come.
