City Boards, Commissions and Committees to Return In-Person 
Since April of 2020, all City meetings have taken place virtually. However, at the July 13 Common Council meeting, a resolution was adopted that resumes in-person meetings for all City Boards, Commissions and Committees effective August 1. In essence, the City will be returning to pre-COVID procedures for both public and appointed members. The Council further directed its Public Welfare Committee to take up this issue in the coming months and potentially propose additional ordinance amendments regarding the future conduct of virtual and/or hybrid meetings. 

City Appoints New Finance Director
On July 13, the Mequon Common Council appointed Jennifer Engroff to fill the position of Finance Director/City Treasurer vacated by former Finance Director Kaitlyn Krueger, who resigned in May to take a similar position with the City of Sheboygan. Ms. Engroff, a Mequon resident, has more than 15 years of private sector financial experience, most recently as the corporate controller for the Crisis Prevention Institute, a worldwide company that specializes in de-escalation and crisis prevention training. Jennifer holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA); it is expected that she will start her duties with the City sometime in mid-August.   

City Receives Seven Seals Award
The Seven Seals Award is the broadest and most inclusive award given by Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR).  The Seven Seals Award is presented in recognition of significant individual or organizational achievement, initiative, or support that promotes and supports the ESGR mission, to include the efforts of the more than 4,500 volunteers who carry out ESGR’s mission across the Nation on a daily basis.  Justin Schoenemann, Assistant City Administrator, was nominated by Seargeant Philip Nelson, who serves Mequon as a Patrol Officer, to receive this prestigious award on behalf of the City.  Justin was recognized at the July 13 Common Council Meeting.

City Hall Available for Homeowner Association Meetings
In light of the Common Council voting to resume in-person meetings beginning August 1, Homeowner Associations are welcome to once again hold their monthly, quarterly or annual meetings at City Hall.  Facilities are available daily from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Please contact the City Clerk’s Office at 262-236-2914 or 262-236-2911 to check room availability and make reservations.

Mequon Nature Preserve Welcomes YMCA
The Mequon Nature Preserve is excited to begin hosting field trips on their grounds after a long hiatus due to COVID-19.  A group of 124 youth arrived on July 14, excited for a day of fun which included a nature hike through prairie, wetland, and woodland habitats.  There is no fee for these programs provided by the Preserve.  

Mequon River Postal Museum is Open for the Season
The Mequon River Postal Museum and Stamp Gallery is open again this summer on Thursdays from 10 A.M. – 4:00 P.M. and by appointment (262) 292-8193 during its second year. To learn more about the Mequon River Postmasters and early postal service in the area, visit the Mequon River Postal Museum at the Isham Day House located at 11312 N. Cedarburg Road.

Bastille Day Pop-Up Event on July 17
Bastille Days may not be happening in Milwaukee this year, but it will be happening in Mequon this weekend!  AllianceFrancaise decided to keep the tradition alive and will be hosting a pop-up event on Saturday, July 17 from 11:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M. at the Foxtown Annex, located at 6375 W. Mequon Road.  The event will include the famous beignets, a cultural tent offering food and drink, and performances by Milwaukee Ballet and Fred Astaire Dance Studio.  The event is free and open to the public.

Bus Museum to Make Stop in Mequon Next Week
A traveling museum highlighting the history of the 20th century prior to World War II will be parked at the Lindenwood Community Center located at 12351 N. Granville Rd. and be available to the public from 1:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 20 and 9:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 21.  Educational panels are on the outside of the bus for viewing and the project director, Dr. Michael Luick-Thrama will give a presentation on bootlegging at 2:00 P.M. on July 20 inside the community center.  The exhibit is sponsored by the Pommerscher Verein Freistadt and is free to the public.
