Recap of July 12 Common Council Meeting 
Preceding the Common Council Meeting on Tuesday, July 12, the Committee of the Whole selected January 10, 2023, as the date for the special election to fill the District 8 Aldermanic vacancy.  If a primary is necessary, it will take place on December 13.  The Committee also considered expanding the current development incentive within Tax Increment Districts 4 & 5 and provided feedback to representatives from Neumann Homes regarding a proposed development consisting of 86 single-family homes and condominiums on property located west of Baehr Road, south of Donges Bay Road and north of the Lily Lane Nature Preserve.

The Mequon Common Council then met afterwards and during the business portion of the meeting, acted to:

  1. Authorize a development agreement for The Green at Mequon, a 7-lot conservation subdivision located at the southwest corner of Villa Grove and Freistadt Roads.
  2. Adopt the City’s Strategic Plan for 2022-2025.
  3. Approve a Professional Services Agreement for Phase I planning for an Enterprise Land Management System with Avero Advisers in the amount of $42,800.
  4. Authorize the purchase of two Ford Police Interceptor Sport Utility Vehicles & associated equipment in the amount of $87,714.
  5. Authorize the purchase of a new Fire Department ambulance in the amount of $296,511.

A summary of all action taken by the Common Council is available via condensed meeting minutes, or the video broadcast.  The Common Council’s next regular meeting is scheduled for 7:30 P.M. on Wednesday, August 10.      

Early Absentee Voting to Begin on July 26
Partisan Primary Early Absentee Voting will take place in the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall from Tuesday, July 26 through Thursday, August 4 from 8:00 A.M. – 4:30 P.M. and on Friday, August 5 from 8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M.  To learn more about the races that will be on the ballot, click here.

Road Projects Taking Place in the Area
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is advising that a full closure at the Wisconsin Southern Railroad crossing on WIS 100 (Brown Deer Road) will be taking place while crews work to reconstruct the crossing. This closure is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 18 and remain in place through Friday, July 29. Motorists will need to utilize WIS 181 (76th Street), WIS 167 (Mequon Road), and WIS 57 (Green Bay Road), to get around the closure.  For more information and project updates, please visit the project website and sign up for email updates here.

In addition, City-funded road projects scheduled for 2022 are slated to begin next week with work on Granville Road, Bonniwell Road, and Legacy Hills.  Work at each location should take approximately 2 – 4 weeks depending on weather.  Local traffic will be maintained.  Below are additionally scheduled work project locations, along with anticipated start dates:

There are a few other road updates to also be aware of across the City.  Road work to replace the box culvert on County Line Road between Range Line Road and River Road has been completed ahead of schedule, and the road is now open.  Additionally, the conversion of the County Trunk Highway (CTH) F (Friedstadt Rd) and CTH M (Wasaukee Rd) intersection from a 2-way stop to a 4-way stop has been completed.  This Intersection is in the Village of Germantown on the border of Washington and Ozaukee counties. 

July is Vehicle Theft Prevention Month
The Police Department would like to remind everyone to protect vehicles by:

  • Closing and locking all car doors and windows
  • Taking valuables out of the vehicle
  • Not leaving keys or key fobs in or near the vehicle
  • Do not leave a vehicle running, even at the gas pump
  • Park in the garage or well-lit area

Residents should call the Police Department’s non-emergency number at (262) 242-3500 if they see something suspicious.

Beer Garden at Lemke Park on July 22
1840 Brewing will be hosting another Beer Garden next Friday, July 22 from 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at the Lemke Park Pavilion.  The event will feature live music, games, food trucks, and craft beer. The dates and locations for upcoming beer gardens across the community are as follows:

•  August 26 – Mequon Community Park

•  September 30 – River Barn Park

•  October 15 – Mequon Community Park for Mequon Oktoberfest

Save the Date for MNP’s 2nd Annual Summer Playdate
Enjoy an afternoon of outdoor family fun at the Mequon Nature Preserve’s 2nd Annual Summer Playdate on Saturday, July 30 from Noon – 3:00 P.M.  There will be games, tractor rides, a craft station, a pond net station, and more.  Please head to the Nature Preserve’s website for more information and to RSVP.  This event is free for all families!
