Private Property Infiltration and Inflow Program Launches Next Steps
This January over 300 outreach letters were sent to invite eligible property owners to participate in the City’s upcoming sewer lateral work. This work is an effort to reduce inflow and infiltration in the sanitary sewer system. This project includes priority areas of Riverdale Park and Riverland Drive areas near the Milwaukee River.  So far, nearly 40 have volunteered to participate in the program.

There will be two public information meetings for this project.  The first meeting is on Wednesday, March 4, at 6:00 P.M. at City Hall.  The second meeting is on Wednesday, April 8, at 6:00 P.M. at City Hall. These meetings will be an open house style format for property owners to ask questions and include a brief presentation at the beginning of the meeting. In general, this program includes three main parts: a clear water compliance inspection to verify roof downspouts and sump pumps are not connected to the building sewer;  an examination of the building sewer to identify defects such as roots and broken pipes;  and a consultation with property owners prior to implementing any proposed lateral rehabilitation methods.  This work is important to reduce risk of residential sewer back-ups, to repair structural issues and maintain a reliable sanitary sewer system.  Please click here to view more information about the program on the City’s website.
