Police Department Handles World War II Ordnance
On Monday February 17, a Mequon resident came into the lobby of the Police Department with a potentially dangerous item requesting to have it disposed. It was a World War II Ordnance. These types of devices have the potential to be live and unstable. If anyone comes across any type of military ordnance, please do not touch or move it. Please call the Police Department immediately and explain the circumstances. An officer will be dispatched and arrange for disposal. The Department can call the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department and they will respond to assist. In this case, the World War II Ordnance was found to be safe, but the MPD must always treat these devices as if they could possibly cause harm.

Transitional K9 Fundraising Effort Moves Forward
The Mequon Police Department (MPD), along with the Mequon Community Foundation, have been working hard the past couple of months to establish the transitional K-9 Unit. The fund raising effort for the K-9 Unit has been strong and is close to attaining the required funds. MPD is now at the point of picking the next K-9 to serve the City of Mequon. A group of new K-9’s will be arriving from Germany to Steinig Tal Kennels this month. This is the same kennel where the City’s past K-9 Units have come from. MPD would like to be the first department to pick the best K-9 from the group for the City. MPD have created a list of all needed equipment and is in the process of preparing vendors for the special equipment order. MPD has also reached out to its officers to check the level of interest in becoming the next K-9 handler. The energy for the transitional K-9 unit is high, and the Department is looking forward to filling the position.
