Office365 Migration Complete
In the second half of 2019, the City began a migration from Microsoft Office 2010 to Office365. The project is now complete. Both IT and staff worked together to complete the rollout of Office365. The most noticeable upgrades of the project were to the City’s email system, mobile phone app changes, and the new remote login to City’s Office365 portal. The City’s email is now supported by cloud-hosted services that protects the email system from local internet or site outages. Additionally, all computer-based Microsoft Office products are now automatically upgraded without the need for major purchases and reinstallation efforts. All Elected Officials and City staff have been using Office365 for some time and have adjusted to the updated software. Thanks to all the parties involved in the project and working with the City through this major upgrade.

Mequon Police Department Issue Fraud Alert – Gift Card Scams
Gift cards are a popular way for scammers to steal money. Gift cards are like cash, if you buy a gift card and someone else uses it, you will not get the money back. Anyone who demands payment by a gift card is a scammer. There are many ways a scammer may ask you to pay with gift cards. A scammer may call and claim to be from the IRS to collect back taxes or fines. The scammer may claim to be from tech support and is asking for money to fix your computer. The scammer may even claim you won a sweepstake, that you probably never entered, and that you must first use a gift card to pay for the fees.

Here is what happens: the scammer will often tell you to go buy a popular gift card- usually iTunes, Google Play, Target, or Amazon. The scammer will tell you to get the card at a specific store such as Walmart, Target, or Walgreens. Once you buy the card, the caller then will demand the gift card number and PIN on the back of the card. Those numbers let the scammer to immediately get the money loaded onto the card.

If anyone receives a phone call or email from someone requesting you to make payments via gift cards, do not do it and contact your local police department.
