COVID-19 Update for the Week Ending Thursday, December 31
The City of Mequon, in coordination with the Washington/Ozaukee Public Health Department and other state and federal agencies, continues to monitor the spread of COVID-19.

  • As of this afternoon, the State has recorded 444,609 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 4,818  associated deaths. Of the cases in Wisconsin, 6,207 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 51 related deaths have been in Ozaukee County, based on information from the Washington/Ozaukee Public Health Department (WOPHD).
  • As a friendly reminder,  Wisconsin's Mask Mandate requiring masks to be worn whenever indoors or in an enclosed space, other than a private residence, and when other people are present in the same room continues to January 19, 2021.
  • The state has released a voluntary contract tracing smartphone app that will help alert people of exposures to COVID-19 and provide easy access to care resources.
  • COVID-19 testing options have different schedules around the New Year holiday.  It is a good idea to double-check schedules closely before going to a testing site.
  • V-SAFE is a new smartphone-based, after-vaccination health checker for people who receive COVID-19 vaccines. V-SAFE will use text messaging and web surveys from the CDC to check in with vaccine recipients for health problems following COVID-19 vaccination. The system also will provide telephone follow up to anyone who reports medically significant (important) adverse events.

Please help the City limit the spread of COVID-19 in the community by wearing a mask, maintaining social distancing, avoiding large gatherings, following proper hygiene practices and staying home when sick.

Christmas Tree Pick-up
The City’s Public Works Department will be picking up Christmas trees throughout Friday, January 29. Residents can place trees on the roadside next to their mailbox and staff will collect the trees.

City Hall Public Guest WiFi Receives Upgrade
Guests at City Hall can now enjoy a new higher-speed with greater-range using the update “Mequon City Guest” Wi-Fi access and passcode Freedom4all.   The higher-speed replaces the old low-speed hospitality package that Time Warner installed years ago and is no longer being supported by Spectrum.  This guest WiFi only allows devices access to the internet, not the City’s secured network.  City computers or devices should not be connected to the Public WiFi.  Additional equipment upgrades will be coming in January which will further improve the new guest WiFi system.

“I Pledge Allegiance, to the Flag…”
At the Mayor’s suggestion during future Council meetings conducted virtually, the Pledge of Allegiance will be led by one Council member. In January District 1 Alderman Strzelczyk will lead the Council, and thereafter, future pledges will be led by Council members in ascending District number order. Additionally, the designated alderperson leading the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance will be denoted on the Common Council agenda.

City Office Close for New Year’s Holiday
Non-emergency City Offices will be closed starting at noon on Thursday, December 31, and all day on Friday, January 1 in observance of the New Year.  Non-emergency City Offices will continue to remain open during normal business hours on all other days throughout the remainder of the holiday season.
