Public Information Meetings to be Held for Sewer Lateral Work
Public Information Meetings are planned for the proposed Sewer Lateral Rehabilitation Work in the Riverdale Park Lift Station “F” and Riverland Drive Lift Station “H” Areas.   Public Information Meetings will be held on Tuesday, August 17 from 6:00 P.M. – 7:30 P.M. at City Hall, 11333 N. Cedarburg Road, and on Tuesday, August 24 from 6:00 P.M. – 7:30 P.M. at Reuter Pavilion in Rotary Park, 4100 Highland Road. The meetings will be informal open house style meetings that allow attendees to stop in anytime to meet with City staff and consultants.

This is a voluntary program that addresses sanitary sewer overflows and non-compliance with Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District requirements. Clear Water Compliance Inspections and Sewer Lateral Exams began in spring 2020, but COVID-19 delays extended the schedule into summer 2021 for this project. The contract for the Sewer Lateral Work is anticipated to be awarded this fall with the work anticipated to begin next spring.  For additional information on reducing inflow and infiltration from private property sources, please visit the City’s website.

Community Foundation Raising Money for Fire Department
The Mequon Community Foundation (MCF) is partnering with the Mequon Fire Department at the Taste of Mequon on September 11 to raise money for defibrillators, laryngoscopes, and operational supplies for the Departments’ mechanical CPR devices.  All of these devices have proven to be extremely valuable in providing effective and cutting edge care for patients as well as increasing the rate of procedural success in critical situations. The tent will be manned throughout the day by the Fire Department and MCF board members to provide a ‘meet and greet’ with first responders.  Throughout the day, the Fire Department will be raffling off multiple opportunities to pick up children in a fire truck and take them to any Mequon school.  In addition, they will be holding demonstrations throughout the day as follows:

1:00 P.M. - Laryngoscope demonstrations
2:00 P.M. - Hands on CPR training (in 1 1/2 minutes)
3:00 P.M. - Mechanical CPR & Defibrillator demonstrations
4:00 P.M. - Laryngoscope demonstrations
5:00 P.M. - Hands on CPR training (in 1 1/2 minutes)
6:00 P.M. - Mechanical CPR & Defibrillator demonstrations

Cream City Conservation Corps Completes Project at the MNP
Last week, the Mequon Nature Preserve (MNP) worked with Cream City Conservation Corps (C4) on an intensive weeklong project combining hands-on restoration work with environmental education and green career exploration. Cream City Conservation is a two-prong social enterprise that combines support for environmental organizations around diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) as well as training and employment for young adults whose social identities are traditionally underrepresented in the environmental industry.  Crew members worked with MNP staff and agricultural partners to learn about MNP’s biotic and abiotic water monitoring, invasive species management, trail maintenance, small scale agriculture, entomology studies, wildlife monitoring, and the Marquette University/Red Stone Rice research project.
