COVID-19 Update for the Week Ending Friday, April 23
The City of Mequon, in coordination with the Washington/Ozaukee Public Health Department (WOPHD) and other state and federal agencies, continues to monitor the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Please help to continue limiting the spread of COVID-19 in the community by, maintaining a safe social distance, avoiding large gatherings, following proper hygiene practices, and staying home when sick.

Common Council Holds Annual Organizational Meeting
The Mequon Common Council recently held its Annual Organizational Meeting to swear-in newly elected members, elect a Common Council President, and approve various subcommittee and aldermanic liaison assignments for the 2021-2022 legislative year. In all, three sitting aldermen were sworn in following re-election on April 6, including Brian Parrish (District 6), Kathleen Schneider (District 7), and Andrew Nerbun (District 8). The Common Council elected District 6 Alderwoman Kathleen Schneider to serve as Common Council President over the next year, and the following assignments were also approved:

The four subcommittees of the Common Council noted above (Finance-Personnel, Public Safety, Public Welfare and Public Works) are next scheduled to meet on Tuesday, May 11, where newly appointed members will elect a committee chair for the upcoming year. Mayor John Wirth also made appointments to a number of the City’s citizen boards, commissions and committees, a listing of which is attached.

Midland Health Starts Second Dose COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics
This past week, Midland Health completed three days of a second dose COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Mequon City Hall. A total of 365 vaccines were administered during the first two days of the clinic. Additional second dose vaccination clinics will be held at City Hall next week from 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. between April 28-30, as well from May 4-7 and May 11-14. City Approves $2 Million Road Improvement Program for 2021
On April 13, the Common Council awarded nearly $2 million in contracts for various road and parking lot improvement projects during the 2021 construction. The pavement improvement contract was awarded to Payne & Dolan of Jackson and calls for the reconstruction of approximately 3.7 miles of roadway, including the Riverlake and River Estates Subdivisions, Westchester Lakes Subdivision, a portion of Highland Road from Cedarburg Road to Green Bay Road, Hidden Farm Subdivision, Martin Way and patching work on Wauwatosa Road near the intersection of Bonniwell Road.  It is anticipated that work will commence around June 1, and notifications for the start of each project will be posted approximately one week in advance to alert nearby residents and commuters. In addition to these improvements, the Council also approved two maintenance contracts for crack sealing and pavement sealing. Crack sealing work will take place between June 1 - July 31 while pavement sealing will occur between July 1 - August 31. Residents living on affected streets will receive a post card in advance of upcoming work, and signage indicating more specific time frames will be posted approximately one week in advance of any road treatments. City Parks and Mequon Community Pool Open for the Season
City of Mequon Parks and Mequon Community Pool will be open for the entire 2021 season.  While both the parks and pool are subject to the recommended capacity restrictions, all amenities are generally open for the enjoyment of the public. The Mequon Community Pool will have a soft opening on June 5-6, then be open for the season on June 11.  Pool hours Monday-Friday are from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with alternate hours for the first hour on Tuesdays and Thursdays for at-risk patrons.  Saturday and Sunday the pool will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. This year the pool will allow Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices. City Seeks Additional Adopt-A-Roadway Program Participants
The City of Mequon Adopt-A-Roadway program is designed to encourage and recognize local groups, (e.g., schools, scout troops, churches, business and civic organizations, families) to “adopt” a two-to-three-mile section of Mequon’s local roadway. The program offers groups the opportunity to contribute to the community by picking up roadside litter while generating positive publicity for the group’s service activities.   • Wasaukee Road (Mequon Road to Pioneer Road)
  • Granville Road (County Line Road to Mequon Road)
  • County Line Road (Granville Road to Swan Road, or Wauwatosa Road to Cedarburg Road)
  • River Road (County Line Road to Mequon Road)

Drive-Up Drug Take Back Day Saturday, April 24
As a reminder, Drug Take Back Day will be held on Saturday April 24 at Concordia University from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Mequon Officers and Pharmacy Students from Concordia will be available to take unused/old/expired medication. This will be a drive-up event located near the Pharmacy Building on Concordia University’s Mequon Campus, located at 12800 N. Lake Shore Drive. The Prescription Drug Take-Back Day provides a safe, convenient, and responsible means for disposing of unwanted or unneeded prescription medications. No businesses will be allowed to participate, as all waste pharmaceuticals must be generated by a household. Please see the attached flyer for additional details.

Arbor Day Drive-Thru Tree Give-Away Tuesday, April 27
The City’s Forestry Division will host an Arbor Day drive-thru tree give-away on Tuesday, April 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Department of Public Works Facility, located at 10800 N. Industrial Drive.  Attendees are asked to enter the facility on the north side of the building and follow signs around the building to the tree pickup lines. All attendees must be present to receive trees. Special activity packages will be available for kids upon request. The event will be first-come/first-serve, with each vehicle receiving no more than two packages.
