Recap of April 12 Common Council Meeting
The Mequon Common Council held its regular monthly meeting on the evening of Tuesday, April 12 at City Hall. During the business portion of the meeting, the Common Council acted to:

  • Approve an intergovernmental agreement with the Village of Thiensville to establish the Southern Ozaukee Joint Fire & Emergency Medical Services Department. 
  • Revise the City’s outdoor burning ordinance.
  • Approve contracts for IT system back-up services and transition of the City’s financial system to a cloud-based platform.
  • Approve a contract for streetscape design on Port Washington Road, south of Mequon Road.
  • Ratify the recording of expenses for demolition of Port Zedler Motel.
  • Amend the City’s fee schedule for fiscal year 2022.
  • Purchase and finance a CAT Excavator.
  • Approve contracts for six sanitary sewer projects.

The Common Council’s next regular meeting is scheduled for 7:30 P.M. on Tuesday, May 10.      

Common Council Approves Revised Burning Ordinance
On April 12, the Common Council approved a series of revisions and updates to the community’s Open and Recreational Burning Ordinance - Chapter 30, Article V.  The updates include streamlining and further clarifying such things as the placement of commercial fire features.  Additionally, fire features that are fueled by sources other than wood have been addressed in the revised ordinance. Road Improvements Project to Hold Information Meeting
The City will be holding a 2022 Road Improvements Project Public Information Meeting on April 26 from 5:30 P.M. - 7:30 P.M. at City Hall.  This meeting will provide an opportunity for the public to ask questions in an “Open House” atmosphere during the two-hour scheduled time.

City Still Seeking Seasonal Summer Help
The City is still recruiting seasonal employees and interns for the summer months. Internships are available in the Forestry, Engineering, and Planning Divisions. The City is also looking to hire lifeguards and bathhouse assistants for the community pool, as well as seasonal staff to work an array of positions within Public Works.  Click here to learn more about these opportunities and to apply.

Celebrate Earth Week at the Mequon Nature Preserve
Next week, April 18 - April 22, is Earth Week and the Mequon Nature Preserve is hosting several events to celebrate.  From April 17 - 30, walk the Streich Family Wetlands trail and read a nature-themed book that has been laminated and posted throughout the trail.  Bring the kids to watch The Lorax movie at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, April 18 or for Craft and Storytime at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, April 19.  The first of three Brown Bag Series will take place on April 20 from noon - 2:00 P.M. with guest speaker Kate Erickson from MATC speaking on the topic, “Mother Earth is where we all met: The beginning of human connection to the Earth.”
