East Trunk Sewer Project Tunnels Forward
The East Trunk Sewer project is currently under construction. The project includes the installation of nearly two miles of new wet weather relief sewer from County Line Road to Donges Bay Road. The City contract is with Minger Construction to build the sewers while minimizing impacts to residents, businesses, park users, the environment, utilities, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and the Union Pacific Railroad. Construction began this summer at the county line, and the work has progressed into Katherine Kearney Carpenter Park. Construction activities are anticipated to cross I-43 later this fall into Port Washington Road; thereafter, it is anticipated that the lower East Trunk Sewer will be brought online in the spring of 2019. Work is anticipated to continue along Port Washington Road from Zedler Lane to Donges Bay Road in 2019, with final project completion and restoration scheduled to occur in 2020. The project timeline is subject to change based on the progress of the contractor, weather and ground conditions. Click here to view further details about the project on the City’s website.

City Pool Closed for the Season; Attendance Up in 2018
This summer, the Mequon Pool was open from June 9 - August 26.  In 2018, the pool saw an increase in attendance with 10,928 patrons visiting the facility compared to 6,380 in 2016 and 9,735 in 2017.  Pool attendance totaled 2,585 in June, 4,894 in July and 3,449 in August, and the facility closed early on 21 days due to weather or low attendance. The first of two movie nights (Coco) was held on July 18 and was enjoyed by 110 people; the second movie night (Surf’s Up) was held August 16 with 80 patrons in attendance. Total revenues for 2018 totaled $70,192; this represents an increase of 3.5% from last year, when $67,777 in fees were collected. Pool passes (629) accounted for a majority of this year’s revenues ($48,380) and included the sale of 205 Super Passes, which also allows admittance to pools in neighboring Cedarburg, Grafton and Port Washington. During the last weeks of operation, an unusual increase in the amount of water was being used for the pool operation was noticed, pointing to a leak in the system. This will be investigated further after the pool is drained later this fall.
