Railroad Quiet Zone Processes Move Forward
The Union Pacific Railroad has provided a letter outlining the requirements to establish a partial quiet zone at Donges Bay Road. Requirements include: updating the current crossing inventory, installing signs notifying the public that the train horn will not sound, and filling a Notice of Establishment with the Railroad and other jurisdictional agencies. City engineering staff is working with the railroad to provide the required documentation. Train horns will continue to be sounded at the Zedler Lane and Mequon Road crossings. Additional information on the history of the quiet zone can be found by clicking here.  The letter from Union Pacific Railroad is attached.

City Issues Hawthorne Road Survey
In response to an increasing number of calls regarding the condition of the gravel surface of Hawthorne Road, the Director of Public Works issued a letter to Hawthorne Road, Hawthorne Court and Windsor Court residents requesting their feedback for an upcoming Public Works Committee meeting. The letter provided a link to an online survey, in addition to posting the link on the City’s website. For those residents unable to complete the survey online, paper copies of the survey are also available. The results of the survey will be compiled and included in the packets for discussion at the November 13 meeting of the Public Works Committee.

East Trunk Sewer Project on Schedule
The contractor, Minger Construction, tunneled and installed over 4,000 feet of sewer in the last four months, and is nearly half-way complete with the project. Tunneling in Katherine Kearney Carpenter park is finished. This month tunneling underneath I-43 will begin along with a second crew tunneling along Port Washington Road. However, due to the above average rainfall amounts in August, September and October, restoration has been delayed. As a result, Katherine Kearney Carpenter park still needs to be restored before its Zedler Lane entrance re-opens, but park access remains from Katherine Drive entrance. The contractor is planning to move from the park staging area as soon as possible, and relocate to a new staging area.  The new staging area is located at a vacant site along Donges Bay Road adjacent to the freeway. This site provides closer access for the contractor to complete the second half of the project. Additionally, City staff continues outreach with property owners and businesses in the East Trunk Sewer project corridor. There have been a limited number of complaints about dust and questions about hours of operation, and the overall project has been without major issues to date. For more information, please view the project details on the City’s website by clicking here.
