City Participates in Voting System Audit
After each General Election, the Wisconsin Election Commission randomly chooses 183 reporting units to conduct a voting system audit. This year wards 13 and 14 in the City of Mequon were chosen. The audit requires that each of the 1100+ ballots in wards 13 and 14 be hand counted, and to compare the audit results to the election night machine results. The audit took place on Monday, November 26, and was conducted by two staff members and two poll workers.  After all, ballots were tallied, the results of the election were verified. The numbers from the hand tallies corresponded with the results from the machine on election night. This verification assures both staff and residents that election machines are working and tabulating properly on Election Day.

Fire Department Extinguishes Attic Fire
On the morning of Monday, November 26, the Fire Department responded to an attic fire on N. Solar Ave. The homeowner woke up to the smell of smoke. Upon investigation, the owner noticed smoke coming from the attic and called 911. The first engine was on the scene in 11 minutes. The house had smoke coming from the front door and the roof. The crew took a hose line inside the home, pulled down the ceiling in the bathroom to locate the origin and extinguished the fire. There were no injuries; however, there was significate damage to the bathroom and surrounding area.

Public Information Session for Sewer Area Amendment Set for Wednesday, January 9
A public information meeting for the proposed Sanitary Sewer Service Area Amendment is scheduled for Wednesday, January 9 from 6:00 P.M. – 7:30 P.M. at City Hall.  A number of parcels were exempted from the City’s Sewer Tax District charges in 2018, and are eligible to become exempt from future sewer charges via removal from the Sanitary Sewer Service Area, based on a recently approved resolution. The City is conducting outreach to property owners to confirm their preference of remaining exempt from charges by removal of their parcel(s) from the City’s Sewer Tax District and Sanitary Sewer Service Area, or to determine if owners wish to remain in the utility service area and incur future charges. At the January 9 meeting, staff will discuss the impacts of both options and answer questions of attendees. Please visit the City Utilities webpage by clicking here for more information.
