City Participates in Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute Tour; Grant Application Also Submitted
In October, Community Development Director Kim Tollefson took part in a Lake Michigan boat tour hosted by the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute.  A group of scientists and local officials viewed the area’s shoreline between Port Washington and Virmond Park here in Mequon. The group discussed the changing nature of the coastline and possible initiatives going forward.  As part of the City’s ongoing participation with Wisconsin’s Coastal Resilience efforts, Director Tollefson applied for a grant through the same program.  If received, the grant dollars will be coupled with Ozaukee County funding and seek to implement a pilot program featuring erosion prevention techniques that have proven successful in other Great Lakes states.  A publication titled Adapting to a Changing Coast, Options, and Resources for Lake Michigan Property Owners, is available at City Hall and will soon be available on the City website.  An additional resource book, Adapting to a Changing Coast, Options, and Resources for Local Officials is also available and was dedicated in memory of former Mequon Alderwoman Pam Adams.
