Open House on East Growth Area Scheduled for Thursday, November 21
The City of Mequon is hosting an Open House on Thursday, November 21, from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at City Hall for public information and input regarding the East Growth area. Attendees will hear a brief presentation by City staff and participate in two mapping exercises. Over 1,600 personal invitations have been issued, including those who own property within the study area. The Open House also is posted on Facebook and was announced at this past week’s Common Council meeting.  Staff is engaging in one-on-one meetings with property owners within the study area to help inform residents of the issues and opportunities at hand.

Winter Tree Removal Process Now Underway
The City crews are out identifying trees for the winter removal efforts. Residents may have noticed pink or green paint dots on trees in the community. The pink dots signify a tree marked for removal by City staff. The green dots signify a removal to be completed by a subcontractor. The dots indicate the City’s intent to remove trees and indicates the trees fall within the City right-of-way. The typical removal time frame for the City is within the winter months (December through May), however, with the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) disease, it is likely that removal processes will be extended beyond that time frame.

Over the past year, the City has seen an escalation in the Ash trees that are showing signs of the EAB disease. City staff and subcontracted crews will continue efforts to efficiently remove affected trees, as outlined in the EAB policy. For more information on EAB, please click here to view the Forestry Division webpage.

Seasonal Banners Opportunity Approaches for Businesses
The City’s Sign Code affords business owners the opportunity to display seasonal banners or an “A” Frame sign during the period commencing on the Friday of the week preceding Thanksgiving through January 2nd.  The banners and “A” Frame signs are limited to 18 square feet and must maintain a 30-foot separation from another sign. Please click here to view the Community Development Department’s website for access to contact information and additional resources.

City Hall Offers After Hours Night Deposit Box
Payments and other City-related documents can be dropped off after hours in the night deposit slot located next to the south entrance doors of City Hall. The payments often received are for utility bills, false alarms, and property taxes during the first collection period. All items are kept in a secure, locked box inside the building. Please make sure to note what department or staff member your item needs to be delivered to. The night deposit box is checked first thing each business day morning.
