Fire Department Launches New Recruitment Efforts
The Mequon Fire Department (MFD) is launching an interactive recruitment website designed to engage prospective new members.  The new website has advanced functionality to provide any prospective applicants with answers to many common questions about serving in various roles with the MFD in a proactive and engaging fashion.  Additionally, the website allows interested parties to schedule an in-person visit to the MFD with a few clicks as well as the ability to fill out and submit an application online.  All activity on the website is tracked via an integrated analytics package and will be used to measure the effectiveness of the website as a recruiting tool.  A social media campaign utilizing the current MFD Facebook and new Instagram and Twitter accounts will direct viewers of MFD posts to the new website.  Furthermore, a focused direct mail campaign will be launched in the near future. The recruiting website is currently in beta testing on the Fire Department page of the City of Mequon website.

Fire Department Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Resuscitate Two Patients
Good news regarding the care delivered by Mequon Fire Department EMS staff on May 10.  The 52-year-old male patient that was resuscitated will be released from the hospital by the end of the week and will return to Michigan to continue his recovery with family.  Deputy Chief Kurt Zellmann has visited with the gentleman many times during his stay in the hospital and has watched the recovery progress. The patient himself brags that he is back to 90% pre-incident functionality and will just need a little more time to get back to 100%.  The gentleman is extremely grateful to the Fire Department staff for the response that afternoon and saved his life. Additionally, the Fire Department responded to a cardiac arrest on the morning of May 24 where staff was called to assist an unresponsive 53-year-old male in his home.  Upon arrival, staff determined the patient was not breathing and had no pulse.  The Fire Department EMS staff were able to resuscitate the individual and transported him to the hospital for continued care. Two successful resuscitations like these instances speak highly of the Fire Department staff because  nationwide the survival rate for those suffering a cardiac arrest outside of a medical facility and treated by EMS is only 10.8% according to American Heart Association.
