Special Common Council Meeting
As noted above, a Special Meeting of the Common Council is scheduled for next Tuesday evening to consider a proposed amendment to the Spur 16 Development Agreement (DA). As indicated in the agenda packet, the proposed amendment is necessary to adjust the completion dates for the commercial and residential phases of the project, based on accelerated commercial leasing commitments that have been achieved since the DA was approved last year. The overall completion date of December 31, 2020 for the entire project remains unchanged. This special meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m., and immediately precedes the regular monthly meeting of the Public Safety Committee (starting at 6:15 p.m.) and a Special Meeting of the Finance & Personnel Committee, which begins at 6:30 p.m.

East Trunk Sewer Project Update
This week, the City conducted the bid opening for the East Trunk Sewer Project. A total of five bids were received, and Engineering Division staff is presently reviewing and tabulating the proposed submissions. Next Tuesday, staff will be participating in a ratings call with Standard & Poor’s in advance of issuing the bonds that are necessary to finance the project. It is expected that a bond rating for this issuance will be obtained during the first week of April, in advance of issuance on April 10. A contract award to the low responsible bidder for project construction, as well as a resolution awarding the sale of general obligation bonds to the underwriting firm supplying the lowest bid, will both appear on the Common Council’s meeting agenda on April 10.

At this point, details regarding the process that will be followed to recruit and select the next Police Chief have yet to be determined; these will be ironed out in the coming weeks in consultation with the City’s Police & Fire Commission, and shared with the Common Council as details emerge. The entire organization extends its sincere appreciation to Steve for devoting his career to the service of others, and offers congratulations and best wishes as he moves on to the next chapter in his life. Attached is a press release that was distributed to the local media earlier this afternoon, which contains additional details regarding the Chief’s career and accomplishments with the City.
