City Hosts Ukrainian Infrastructure Delegation
Last week, a group of officials from the Ukraine visited the Milwaukee area to learn about infrastructure development and tour area attractions such as the Global Water Center and Miller Park. On Tuesday, the delegation visited Mequon to learn about the foundations of local government, City land use policies and to tour the newly renovated Public Works facility. Additionally, the delegation was welcomed by the Noon Rotary Club at its lunch meeting, and toured the Spur 16 development project. The group’s visit with City officials, which included the Mayor, City Administrator and representatives from the Departments of Community Development and Public Works, also included an exchange of gifts and an opportunity for photos. The delegation’s week-long visit, which also included a stop in Washington, DC and a visit to Chicago, was in part coordinated by Historical Society President Bob Blazich through Open World, a 20-year program that introduces young foreign leaders to the American governing system and free market operations.

Public Works Department Now on Summer Hours
The Department of Public Works (DPW) is on summer hours through October 11. Crews and the DPW building operate Monday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and from 6:30 - 10:30 a.m. on Fridays. Modified work hours allow staff to take advantage of extended daylight, lower heat indices, reduced traffic and increased efficiencies on larger scale projects. As always, the Police and Public Works Departments coordinate for after-hour calls that require DPW to respond.

Finance Department Publishes 2018 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report
The Mequon Common Council recently accepted the 2018 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report or “CAFR.” Mequon’s financial statements received an unmodified opinion from the City’s independent auditors, which is the highest level of assurance that can be obtained.  The City had another good year fiscally, with General Fund revenues equaling 101% of budget and expenditures coming in at 99% of budget. The Sewer and Water Utilities both recorded surpluses as well. The CAFR, including the auditor opinion, management’s discussion & analysis, a statistical section and more can be found on the Finance Department web page by clicking here.
