Police Chief Reminds Everyone to “Please lock vehicles and keep valuables inside”
With summer finally in full swing, temperatures aren't the only thing on the rise. The Police Department wants to remind people when the weather gets warm, that the Department often sees an increase in crime. For instance, last weekend there more car break-ins were reported. The break-ins all had one thing in common, the thieves are not breaking out windows to get into the cars. Thieves are finding car doors unlocked. The thieves often target cars in neighborhoods and pull on door handles to see if the car is unlocked. Although these types of crimes can be hard to solve, the Department advises they're easy to prevent. The Police Department doesn’t want citizens to be easy targets. While the Department is stepping up patrols in neighborhoods, the Police need the community's help to put a stop to these crimes altogether. Please remember to lock your vehicles and take your valuables inside. Please don’t hesitate to call the Police if you see or hear something suspicious happening in your neighborhood at 262-242-3500 or call 911 if it is an emergency.

Community Survey Moves to Next Step
Following the Common Council’s approval of the survey instrument in March, the Strategic Research Institute at St. Norbert College facilitated the data gathering phase. The surveys were placed in the mail on May 8 and the deadline for responses was June 14. A total of approximately 9,500 surveys were sent out and an online version of the survey was available during the same period. The City received a total of 3,818 survey responses. Dividing the 3,818 responses by the 9,500 mailed surveys translates to 40%. Previous surveys saw a 40-52% response rate. Going Forward, Neighborhood Analytics, the City’s second consultant, will analyze the data for the next month and provide the City with a draft report in August. Thereafter it is anticipated that the consultants will present the report to the Common Council in September. Last, but not least, the City would like to thank all residents who participated in the survey. The feedback gathered will be used to guide decisions on important matters before the City for years to come.

Fire Department Swiftly Responds to High-Speed Roll Over
On the evening of July 2, the Mequon Fire Department responded to a single vehicle involved in a high-speed rollover. The vehicle was being pursued by the Thiensville Police going north on Green Bay Road when the driver lost control. The driver left the roadway and rolled three times shearing off a power pole. Flight for Life was requested for the unresponsive driver. The driver was extricated with the Jaws of Life and transported to the local hospital because Flight for Life was unable to fly due to weather.
