Finance Department Publishes 2017 Popular Annual Financial Report
Finance Department has recently published the 2017 Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR) to the City’s website. The PAFR is a summary of the City’s financial activities and is intended to increase awareness throughout the community of the financial operations of the City. Within this document, the City’s Governmental Funds are placed in a clear, concise and more simplified format for the general public to read and understand. The financial information within this report is taken in large part from the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) that was recently accepted by the Common Council at its last meeting in June.

Each year, the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) honors municipalities with an award for outstanding financial documents that comply with their strict standards.  The City has submitted the 2017 PAFR to the GFOA for this prestigious award.  For the past three years, the City of Mequon has been one of only three Wisconsin municipalities to win awards for its PAFR, CAFR, and Budget Document within the same fiscal year.

East Trunk Sewer Project Progressing on Schedule
The contractor, Minger Construction, began work at County Line Road and crossed the Union Pacific railroad before the Fourth of July holiday, and is expected to complete sewer tunneling on the east side of the railroad tracks this month.  Upon completion of the tunneling work, a 30 foot deep access manhole will be installed to connect the sewer pipe in the workshaft and site restoration will follow. On the west side of the railroad tracks, tunneling work is progressing towards Katherine Kearney Carpenter Park. The park remains open with access from Katherine Drive. However, access from Zedler Lane to the park entrance was restricted in June, and remains closed, to accommodate staging of workshaft construction. Tunneling will continue this summer and fall in the park.

This project addresses sanitary sewer overflows and compliance requirements. City staff continues outreach to property owners in the impacted subdivisions and businesses along the Port Washington Road corridor of the East Trunk Sewer project.   There have been a limited number of complaints about dust and questions about hours of operation, yet to date, the overall project has been without major issues.  In addition, the contractor has been very responsive to coordination with City staff, maintaining erosion control and site safety. Logemann Community Center Demolition Underway
The demolition of the Logemann Center at 6100 West Mequon Road was awarded to Shoreline Contracting Services, Inc. earlier this year. The contract includes removal of the former Logemann Community Center, a 4,600 gallon underground water tank, all patio/porch slabs, concrete walkways, a garage slab, foundation and footings, miscellaneous shrubbery, and other items. The site is to be filled, leveled, and graded with compactable granular backfill to within 6 inches of the surface. Top layer of fill will be traffic bond suitable for a temporary parking lot. The parking lot adjacent to the building provides parking critical to the summer operations of the City’s civic campus and the window for demolition is July 16 to August 10.
