Volunteer at the Taste of Mequon
The Festivals Committee is looking for volunteers to lend a helping hand at the sixth annual Taste of Mequon taking place on Saturday, September 8.  Volunteers can help at information booths, the entertainment stage, the Children’s/Art Areas, or at the main stage/entertainment area. Library Extends Hours of Operation
Frank L. Weyenberg Library of Mequon-Thiensville is expanding its hours after Labor Day, beginning Tuesday, September 4. The library will open one hour earlier, at 9:00 A.M., Monday through Saturday, and add Sunday afternoon hours. The new hours are:

  • Monday through Thursday, 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M.

  • Friday, 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.

  • Saturday, 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.

  • Sunday, Noon to 4:00 P.M.

Sergeant Mark Kastens Fills Administrative Sergeant Vacancy
Patrol Sergeant Mark Kastens has been selected by Chief Dan Buntrock to become the Department’s newest Administrative Sergeant. Kastens started his law enforcement career over 23 years ago with the Burlington Police Department. After 4 years in Burlington, he left to join the Mequon Police Department. During his service, Kastens has held several assignments including field training officer, defensive tactics instructor, Taser instructor, and he has been involved in the Citizens Police Academy. Kastens also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Work from Concordia University and attended the Suburban Law Enforcement Management Development Program at Du Page University. Kastens assumed his new role on Friday, August 3.

State and Federal Officials Tour the Thiensville/Mequon Fish Passage Project
U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke , Acting Director of the Fish and Wildlife Program Greg Sheehan, and U.S. Representative Glenn Grothman stopped at the Thiensville/Mequon dam last week Friday, July 27, to view the fish ladder constructed in 2011. The small group event included Mayor Abendroth, Administrator Jones, and Assistant City Engineer Henk, as well as three officials from the Village of Thiensville. The fish ladder is a 1,400-foot channel with pools and a gradual elevation change that allows fish to navigate around the dam. It was funded with monies from a $4.7 million grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Absentee Voting Continues at City Hall
As a friendly reminder to all voters, absentee voting is taking place in the Clerk’s office at Mequon City Hall until 5:00 P.M. on Friday, August 10.
