Free Logs and Wood Available for Pick-Up
With an increase in the volume of trees and logs at the City’s Brush and Yard Waste Disposal Center (6000 West Bonniwell Road), the City will be amending some of the standard procedures through the end of the 2019 season. Currently, wood chips, logs for firewood and compost are available for City of Mequon residents. No permit is necessary if you are only taking chips, logs and compost. To reduce the cost of year-end grinding of the material, the City will also allow non-residents to take the logs and not require a driver’s license for admittance.

Logs and wood are from the City’s tree trimming operations. It will require additional cutting and splitting (See attached image). The City provides no assistance in loading. On Wednesdays and Saturdays when the Brush and Yard Waste Disposal Center is open for residents, no commercial equipment to assist in loading is allowed on-site and load size is limited to approximately two cubic yards. However, if residents or contractors are interested in taking a larger quantity of logs or use commercial equipment for loading, please contact the Public Works Department at 262-236-2913 to schedule a time for log removal.

Logs will be available on a first come, first served basis. Contacting the Public Works Department with an interest in log wood does not guarantee availability. However, the City continues to remove trees through the fall; therefore additional logs may become available later in the season.

Fire Department Continues Expanded Recruitment Efforts
The Mequon Fire Department is continuing to aggressively recruit new members to join its ranks and to make a difference in the community. The first action step has been to engage the public and notify them of the need for new members via multiple social media platforms. The second phase of this campaign has been to develop a flyer and mail it to addresses in neighborhoods that are in close geographical proximity to the City’s two current stations. The informational flyers should have started arriving in mailboxes last week. The mailer shows images of the Mequon Fire Department in action and directs interested parties to the Department’s recruitment website, www.mequonfire.com. To date, thirty-one individuals have filled out a request for additional information on the website, and staff has reached out to all interested candidates.

The show featured 10 vendors who provided demonstrations or presentations. There were about 80 attendees from surrounding municipalities. Several tours of the City’s DPW facility were also provided.
